An ornately gilt and embossed three volume set of late 19th century brown cloth bindings. Smooth spines are ornately gilt and embossed in black w/ title; top boards similarly designed. Bindings are tight and sound w/ minimal wear. Internally clean and profusely illustrated w/ steel engravings, lithographs and text illustrations throughout.Lovely steel engraved plates depicting the art of the 19th century; engravings from the Hess Press, each seemingly attributed to a different engraver. In all, a fine, clean complete three volume set, profusely illustrated w/ fine steel engravings. Books measure c. 10 1/4" x 13.

Hinges cracked.Signed and stamped by author. This is one of only 100 copies issued, a First (and only) Edition. There are no plates, which were apparantly issued separately, included in this copy. Overall, a great book to add to your nautical collection!!. Limited Edition/Very Rare.
